MaxwellThis is a special year for the Maxwell School — our 90th anniversary year. Syracuse University opened its new School of Citizenship and Public Affairs on October 3, 1924, consisting of a nascent MPA program, an undergraduate citizenship curriculum, and a seminar in political science. We’ve grown to become so much more, and yet you can find many of the seeds of what we became in that humble start, 90 years ago.

We plan to mark this milestone in a variety of ways. Here, on campus, we will hold two School-wide events, one a high-profile lecture, the other a reception/party across the Maxwell/Eggers complex. Plus, there will be an array of observances designed by the departments, centers, and institutes, so that each community within Maxwell can mark this milestone in a way it finds appropriate, while also demonstrating our diversity and shared history. You can find more detail about all the on-campus events elsewhere in this website.

In addition, on November 20 we will hold a fund-raising celebration at our new home in Washington, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, where we will present our Spirit of Public Service award to an individual or organization that represents our ideals — an embodiment of commitment, service, innovation, and impact for the public good. And at the Washington event we will share preliminary plans for the Tenth Decade Citizenship Project — new and enhanced initiatives to bolster citizenship and public service in all our research, teaching, and public outreach over the next decade.
